NPWS carpenters are to work out a solution to the smoking fireplace, I'm thinking of suggesting installation of a stove like in Valentine.
The newspaper glue used was not prepared properly, a more permanent solution will be trialled this season.

Yes, we do know about it. You may have noticed the expanding foam in other parts of the roof.
It is a lot better than it was, there was a lot of newspaper jammed into the gaps previously. Works next season will involve installing some diagonal bracing internally on the underside of the roof and we may be able to do something about the ridge at the same time. |

Thanks for the info Ian.
Would be good to have the toilet replaced with a more modern style one. |

Yes, it needs some work, the toilet needs to be closed and a new one built, not something KHA can do.
NPWS will be replacing the hut chimney with a new one next year. |

Was over at O'Keefes Hut a couple of weeks ago.
Door not easy to close properly, could use an adjustment. That time of year I suppose, people closing it with snow/ice jammed in the corner. Cleared away all snow and ice, and still not very easy to close from the outside when leaving. Still lots of complaints in the log book about the fireplace not drawing with the door closed. Pity that a lot of the old newspapers, those not covered with plastic, have come off of the walls. ![]() Click image for full size photo. |

A group of Sydney members had a very pleasant dinner recently.
We thought it would be good to get together every three months or so. If you would like to join us for the next one, please let me know. It is likely to be 25th November, a Thursday evening. Location: Inner West. (lots of good, cheap places to eat!) |

A KHA member reports that the door on Valentine Hut is damaged due to people closing it when obstructed by ice.
I have asked a Jindabyne based member to check it if he has time. HMO South |
