We're starting to treat the main website as a blog so we'll have to restructure it a bit better. Most of a web site's home page should never change. The only part that changes is usually a small Newsflash component and What's New component. The side menus should be sufficient to allow visitors to drill down to the appropriate content.

I agree.

I've seen on other sites where they have a separate page for the Blog, which in the old days would have been 'News'.

Maybe add new "Blog" tab at the top which switches to the blog page.

Have added a blog menu button in the top menu. We have a link in the main menu as well.

I suspect the image rotator is not cached by my computer's browser.

We might have to consider reducing the number of images.

Is there any way we can load the page before the rotator?

Correct - Images are not cached. But it takes milliseconds to load with my Firefox install.
I don't think the number of images would help speed loading. Perhaps you should clear your cookies?  Defrag your disk?

I just timed it.

28 seconds until the circular 'loding icon appears, 38 when the first image appears.

Firefox 3.5.6

I don't want to clear my cache just yet.

I'll try again later.

I am on an older version of Firefox - 3.0. So that is not the problem.

I did some testing - the banners are cached. If I turn off my internet connection, they continue to scroll through all available banner photos. HMO South - did you find your problem?

I tried it at work with IE6 which stalls rendering the rest of the page until it loads the first image. This takes about 20-30 seconds. This is probably due to the security settings.

I try resetting the cache at home.
