Anyone know how to embed ABC video?

It seems to be a proprietory format, we might have to ask the ABC for permission and the corrrect embedding codes for Joomla.

What format is the the video file that you have at the moment, or what extension does it have on the filename?

I have no idea...

There is an 'insert flash' button on the forum...

I had a look at the html source of http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2010/02/19/2825290.htm

but all I can find is:

<!-- Media player -->
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
if (typeof showVideo == 'function') showVideo('/news/video/2010/02/19/2825290-mediarss.xml', document.getElementById('anchor'), '100%', 'false');
-->

</script>

I can't work out how to find the actual feed stream on that page.

It might not be flash either?

I assume we are talking about the Pretty Plain report.
Why can't we just add a link to it?
The only reason I can think of to have a separate copy on the KHA web page is if ABC do not keep it up for very long - which is entirely possible.

Then again, we might want to add our own videos...

It mentions that the page/story expires in May, I would think that access to the file from the ABC website is not permanent.

KHA should keep a copy of the video, in archives, and in gallery on website.

Would be better to get hold of a higher (highest?) quality version of the video from Stateline, if possible, the streaming video on the website is fairly poor quality due to heavy compression for minimum bandwidth while streaming.

An ASX file (Advanced Stream Redirector) is not the source media file itself, but a list of what it should play/stream.

Inside the .ASX file is this...

Quote
<asx version="3">
<title>Stateline Canberra - 19-Feb-2010</title>
<author>Stateline Canberra</author>
<copyright>2010, Australian Broadcasting Corporation</copyright>
<moreinfo href="" />
<logo href="http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/img/smalllogo.gif" style="icon" />
<entry>
<title>High country hut</title>
<startmarker name="01"/>
<endmarker name="02"/>
<ref href="mms://media3.abc.net.au/winlibrary/statelinecanberra/201002/r517802_2847458.wmv" />
<ref href="mms://media4.abc.net.au/winlibrary/statelinecanberra/201002/r517802_2847458.wmv" />
</entry>
</asx>

Which are links to the actual source file.

You might be able to download the file here...

...but it seems not, they have made it difficult to easily download instead of stream. I'm sure there would be a way to do it, but not sure we/KHA should.

This would still be a low quality version of the video, optimised for streaming.

It would be a better idea to ask ABC, on behalf of the KHA, to supply a higher quality, less compressed, source file, for use on the KHA website and for other KHA promotional purposes.

I'm only new here, so no idea what the protocol would be for requesting this on behalf of the KHA, but I am happy to do it if no one else wants to.

I have asked Stateline for another story in the past, and they would sell it to me, though it would have been free if I was in the video myself.

I would think that they might provide it to KHA if asked officially for it, for website, promotional, and historical archive purposes.

I think Narelle asked politely, but they wanted us to direct people to their website?

And they suggested we negotiate $$$ over our own DVD copy.

Don't be discouraged by our apparent lack of enthusiasm Wink

It's lack of time and what we think are more pressing issues:

No probs, it is a pity that they can't just give KHA a copy, seeing as KHA is a non-profit organisation, and it will not be available on their website into the future.
