O'Keefes Hut Maintenance

Jack Palmer sent the following report on recent maintenance at O'Keefes Hut.

After 3 postponements owing to track impassibility, there was at last a work party at O'Keefe's on 16-17 April. 

Andrew Miller prescribed the lengthy route via Far Bald Mt and Doubtful Gap. The Doubtful Gap trail is not marked on  the Dept of Lands 2001 Toolong Range 1:25,000 map, but is on Rooftops Jindabyne-Khancoban map.  We needed it to bring the tank to be installed as a firewood shelter.  The track is in good condition, although the undulations dislodged our trailer at one point.

Eventually we made it and the diminished group of Stan, Matt, Jane and Jack replaced the newspapers that had formerly been attached with "heritage" flour and water.  This time 2:1 Aquadhere /water was used. 

Thanks to campers who preserved those that had come off.  The stock of 1930 newspapers is now almost exhausted but we still have a few for gaps.

The tank was installed in a niche corresponding to where the woodpile was in the former hut; then between star pickets.  The tank is a suitable 1932 vernacular adjunct to the hut.
