History

The current hut is a modern privately owned hut located on the site of a 1915 stockmen's hut. It’s located on the Parish Gungarlin in Portion 33 now owned by Snowy Vale Inc. In 1914 portion 33 of 320 acres was acquired by George Wallace, at which time he also took out a lease of portion 34 of 960 acres. By Feb 1915 Wallace had built a hut and large sheepyard complex in the northeast corner of Block 33.

The hut was a ruin prior to the 1980s. The current hut is believed to be a late 20th Century structure, that was substantially rennovated by Snow Vale in 2000-01. The original fireplace and hut site is located just behind the new structure. The original fireplace is still there.

The hut is open but public should only use it in an emergency. There are two beds, a table, chairs and wood fired heater. Whilst access to the property through the gate down the hill next to the sheep yards is locked, there is a stile 10 metres to the south of the gate.
