History

Blandfordia Lodge and the adjacent Mount Kate House were both built by the late Major Ron Smith, who had a sawmill on Ronny Creek. A friend of Weindorfer, Smith was the son of James 'Philosopher' Smith -- discoverer of the massive tin deposits at Mt Bischoff (Waratah).

On Ron Smith's death in the 1960s, Blandfordia was vested in a group of friends on the proviso that they fed the possums. Blandfordia Alpine Club as the group call themselves still own and maintain the hut.

Mount Kate House is owned by the Parks and Wildlife Service, and is used as staff accommodation at peak times.
