Photo courtesy of Dianne Carroll January 2004, showing the crew from VHCHA who rebuilt this hut this year, in memorium to the bush fires of one year previously.
The hut was constructed on the 1st anniversary of the 2003 bushfires (the Australia Day weekend) as part of the Pioneer Workshop run by the Victorian High Country Huts Association.
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Omeo Rodeo - so it was named the "Roughriders Hut" to commemorate the pioneer roughriders. The hut was built in this location to enable tourist and visitors who have difficulty visiting the huts of the high country easy access. The hut will also be a prominent promotional tool for the VHCHA.
