Also known as Tallangatta and District Ski Club Hut

History

The original Woollybutt hut was located on the Cobungra River, but was destroyed in the 1939 fires. This hut was built by the ski club in late 1947, aided by Tom Mitchell MLA

The hut was large at 40 feet by 20 feet. Timber was supplied free, on condition that local foresters could use the hut occassionally. An extension was added after the club was reformed in 1972 and the lease re-obtained.

Lately the hut has been open for use, and commmonly used by students from Charles Sturt University. A plaque was placed out the front to commemorate the life of Mike Townsend, who was accidentally killed in 1983.

Construction

Slab and snow gum logs, pine floor, iron roof. More a lodge than a hut.
