Opening of Vickery's Hut

The official opening of the rebuilt Vickery's Hut took place on Saturday 18th November. About 50 attended including members of the committee, general members and associated families and descendants as well as NPWS Staff. Once again a big thank you to all involved in this historic rebuild.

Bradley and O'Briens Hut almost complete(still need to treat timber) and work on Brooks Hut commenced.

Rebuild work on Brooks Hut continuing till 22 December then a short break for Christmas, recommencing  at the beginning of January.

Rebuild of Four Mile Hut beginning January and hoping to have the steel frame in place before Christmas.

HMO UPDATES

Work parties of a minor nature which only require the caretaker or caretaker group are not listed here.  Work parties are only listed here if they require additional support from the broader KHA membership.

KNP Jagungal

For Caretakers, please submit your work party proposals if you haven't already. Remember, you need a 4WD qualification if you are entering an area of the park where you need to engage 4WD. Additionally, please ensure that your work party members are registered on the NPWS VIP portal.

There are currently many areas of KNP that are closed to the public (including KHA members) due to works and feral animal control. I would highly recommend that all members and particularly those intending on conducting work parties, check the NPWS website to ensure that they are able to enter the relevant areas of the KNP.

KNP Snowy

NPWS staff are pushing ahead with the works on the Bullocks hut complex involving the treatment and management for the rising and falling damp,. The works are quite intensive as the historic damage done to the masonry walls is quite extensive. More updates to follow.

Work party proposals are slowly coming in.

Maintenance and pre fire season check was carried out at Brandy Flat Hut, Horse Gully Hut and Waterhole stockyards. Forest ACT Hut and Waterhole Hut were also checked. Most upsetting was that the KHA containers have been broken into yet again and items stolen.  For the second time Horse Gully Hut has been damaged and left in a mess, and Brandy Flat Hut which had been vandalised previously has had  items removed from the hut this time. NNP staff  alerted will inform the Police.

The new ruling in Namadgi is no fires in any huts as per NNP staff.
