KHA SURVEY REMINDER

The KHA Committee has developed a very short survey that we hope as many members as possible will complete. We would like to know if members would like other social events included on the KHA calendar throughout the year if possible.

Please click on the link  here. If you have any questions about the survey please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone Pip on 0431 956 426.

The survey will now close at 5pm on Thursday 29 February 2024.

KHA CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS

Proposed updates to the constitution

The KHA committee and the Public Officer are reviewing the constitution to ensure it remains aligned and current with the ACT’s Associations Act and with member’s expectations. KHA’s Constitution was last updated in May 2018 and, since that time, the Associations Act has been updated nine(9) times affecting 65 section with the most recent being 12 December 2023. The Constitution requires amendment to accommodate changes to the Act and also other changes for the way we now operate.

Changes to the Act will require amendment to the KHA Constitution to accommodate the likes of: confidentiality of member’s contact details, member’s right of access to KHA documents, disqualification of committee members and Public Officer for bankruptcy of specified convictions under the Act, auditing requirements, dispute resolution, etc. The Constitution also needs updating to keep pace with member’s expectations, such as: management of funds (move away from cheques to electronic funds management), the way people are contacted (less postal and more email or other electronic communications), and others.

All changes will require member's approval at the AGM and full details of all proposed changes to the constitution will be provided for member’s consideration prior to the AGM.

HERITAGE SKILLS TRAINING IN TASMANIA OPPORTUNITY REMINDER

An opportunity exists for up to two KHA members to attend the week long autumn Longford Academy course  at Longford, Tasmania in May 2024.  The Longford Academy is Australia's best known hands-on heritage training group.  The Autumn course is the only course on heritage for trades people, professionals, and volunteers that is currently available in Australia and regularly run.

KHA will cover course fees - as we are volunteers discount arrangements exist with the Longford Academy.  Onsite twin share accommodation, pick-up and drop-off at Launceston Airport in Tasmania, and some meals are included.  Participant/s will need to meet their travel costs to Launceston, their food and non-included meals.  If accomodation other than the accommodation provided by KHA is preferred, the cost of that will also have to be met by the participant.

Dates of the course: 6-11 May 2024

Expressions of interest close 5pm on Thursday 29 February 2024.

Submit expressions of interest to Marion Plum: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Expressions of interest should detail why you want to attend and what the benefits to KHA will be after you complete the course if approved. Participants will also be required to provide a report on their experience of the course to KHA after the completion of the course.  Please contact Marion if you have any questions as she has completed the course.

HMO UPDATES

Work parties of a minor nature which only require the caretaker or caretaker group are not listed here. Work parties are only listed here if they require additional support from the broader KHA membership.

KNP Tantangara

A late summer and regular rain means there is plenty of grass around huts and drains that need a clean out. The country looks great. With a few years of covid, fire and wet it has been difficult to succesfully plan workparties. Check out the park closures, take on board Simon and Marions comments below. Call me if you need.

KNP Snowy

Hi folks, keep those WP proposals coming as there's still a few huts out there that haven't had any TLC for a year or so.  Even if you feel there's not much that needs doing, the huts need that inspection from people who know the hut so well. There's always tidying up, taking out rubbish, checking drainage around the perimeter of the hut, making sure the rain that runs off the walls can get away. Checking for decaying putty, timber etc. Most importantly, the sheer joy of having the privilege of caretaking that hut.
