The association held its 2025 Annual General Meeting in Tumut on 17 May.
KHA president Pip Brown gave her summary of the year’s activities, before reports were made by each of the Huts Maintenance Officers (HMOs) and Parks rangers in their areas. Attendees then enjoyed a presentation from Megan Bowden, Senior Ranger at the National Parks and Wildlife Service NSW, who gave her final update on the KNP hut rebuilds which are now complete.
The formalities of the AGM were completed with the existing committee being returned largely unchanged. After several years as HMO Tantangara, Peter Charker stepped down from the committee, and introduced the new HMO for that region, Chris Parr. Long-standing Treasurer for the association Bob Anderson also stepped down and is replaced by Fatemeh Rashedi. The committee sincerely thanked Peter and Bob for their significant contributions to the work of the KHA and welcomed its new committee members.
Former KHA president Simon Buckpitt was awarded an honorary life membership to the association, the first time this accolade has been given in many years. Simon has been a member of KHA since 2000, was a committee member, Huts Maintenance Officer for Namadgi from 2016 - 2020 and was KHA President from 2020 – 2023. The honorary life membership recognises his strong support for the skilling of members and commitment to the conservation of skills, tools and methods in hut construction and maintenance.
