Maurice joined Kosciuszko Huts Association (KHA) in 1989 and continuously held a position on the KHA Committee until 2007. For most of that time Maurice has been very closely involved in KHA.
In 1999 his work on these two projects was recognised with an ACT Heritage Award. The citation for that award reads:
"For his outstanding contribution to the conservation of the ACT High Country heritage, in particular his management of the conservation programs at Brayshaws and Westermans huts.
Maurice reluctantly took over as President in 1995/96 and was re-elected to that position in 2001/2 and 2002/3. Variously over the years Maurice has also held down the positions of Bookkeeper, Treasurer and Membership Secretary. He is recently been the Secretary of KHA, retiring in 2007.
In more recent years Maurice has been very closely involved in the reviews of the Plans of Management for both Namadgi National Park and Kosciuszko National Park. He represented KHA, and other organisations, on the Community Forum that was set up to advise the NPWS on the review of the Plan of Management for KNP.
In July 2004 Maurice was appointed a member of the NPWS South West Slopes Regional Advisory Committee. A position he will hold for four years.
Maurice was nominated for an Order of Australia in 2006 by Mark Cleghorn and awarded the OAM in 2007.
Maurice sadly passed away in November 2022.
